First of all we have tried to bring together into one container all the different pieces of equipment that you need to manage your condition. You told us that although you are diabetic you don't want to advertise the fact to the whole world; you want something small, discrete and that doesn't look "medical". So we made the container as unobtrusive and good looking as we could. In the future you will be able to customise the design. But that is just the start.
The diabetes care professionals we spoke to told us that many of you find it confusing, and sometimes downright difficult, to understand how the activity you do and the food you eat can affect your condition, so we are working to incorporate the ability for you to easily input the type of activity you do and the foods you eat and then to get the specially written software to translate this into guidance, for those of you who want it, on what your next insulin dosage might be.
To help you remember when you made your last insulin injection and the dose, the Mediche Life One injector pen records the information and displays it on a small screen. So far so good. At least you now don't have to guess when and how much the last dose was.
The integral blood glucose monitor will also automatically send recent blood glucose monitor results to the smart device. You can input more information, such as what food you have eaten and any activities you have done. This will display as a graph on the device and on your web account so that you can begin to see a pattern forming of how each element (blood glucose levels, insulin dosage, food intake and activity) can affect your condition. The picture that builds is unique to you.
From the smart device the information can be uploaded to the Mediche website where you can add to your information and organise it to show the graphs and data which you think are the most important for you to be able to manage your condition better.
If you want to, you can allow certain other people to see the information. This has some crucial advantages for some people. For instance, if you are managing your condition better because you are recording and checking the information more often and adjusting your lifestyle accordingly, there may be no need to go to see your care team because if they can access your details they can see for themselves what progress you are making.
For others it may be that they feel more comfortable with just their partners having the ability to be able to see the information so that they can check on their progress during the day (or evening). This could be true for young people who want to spend some time away from home but are nervous of not having someone around who normally prompts them to check blood glucose levels or gives them help with dosage or diet. All this could be done remotely and the "helper" could then just text a message or call on the mobile.
