What is Mediche Life One?

Mediche Life One in its simplest form is a system which combines, in one compact and stylish folder, all the equipment that a person with diabetes uses in their day-to-day life. The system allows for more effective management of insulin-dependent diabetes by providing simple to use equipment combined with real-time reporting features to inform the user of the status of their condition.

How is this done?

The equipment allows all elements of a person's condition to be recorded in one location; this includes blood glucose readings, insulin dosage, food/carbohydrate intake and activity. Once collected this information is processed and sent to a secure server via the mobile phone network. The majority of this is done automatically and without intervention from the user. The insulin injector pen has an inbuilt memory of date, time and dose of insulin. When the injector pen is returned to its place in the folder after injection, the data, together with that from an integral blood glucose monitor, will automatically upload to the mobile computing device in the folder and ultimately to the user's database account on the website. The additional information can be added or amended manually via the mobile device or on the website.

Why do we need this?

With clearer and more information regarding their condition the person with diabetes is better enabled to manage themselves which can help reduce the concequences of mismanagement of diabetes which include loss of sight, amputations and heart problems.

Within the UK alone, in 2008 the NHS spent £1.3 billon (5% of the total budget) on diabetes and diabetes-related care. With better management this can be reduced, saving the NHS and other health organisations millions per year.
